Invisalign Q & A
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligners to straighten crooked teeth, rather than the brackets and metal wires of conventional braces. Like traditional braces, Invisalign straightens your teeth gradually. However, Invisalign offers several benefits, particularly for teens and adults.
What are the benefits of Invisalign?
A to Z Dental Studio encourages Invisalign if you’re also a candidate for conventional braces. Invisalign can treat many of the same dental concerns as braces, including crooked teeth, overbite, underbite, and crossbite.
Some of the benefits of choosing Invisalign over alternative orthodontic therapies include:
Invisalign is almost invisible, so you won’t be able to see your aligners when you speak or smile, unlike conventional braces.
Braces take anywhere from 18 months to three years to effectively straighten your teeth, while Invisalign typically takes 6-18 months.
Clear aligners are removable, so you can take them out to brush and floss as you normally would.
No food limits
With traditional braces, chewy foods easily get stuck in your teeth. Since you can remove Invisalign, you can eat and drink anything you want.
When you’re wearing braces, the brackets and wires can irritate the inside of your cheeks, resulting in small cuts and sores. Invisalign aligners are smooth and custom-made to hug the natural shape of your teeth, so they won’t irritate your mouth.
What is the process like for getting Invisalign?
The Invisalign process is completely digital. After taking X-rays and digital impressions of your teeth, your provider at A to Z Dental Studio uploads your images into the Invisalign software, which is used to map your custom treatment plan.
Once your plan is ready, your provider sends it to the lab to create your aligners. Every two weeks, you’ll receive a new set of aligners, which you must wear for at least 20-22 hours a day.
Because your plan is entirely digital, your provider can make adjustments to your treatment as needed.
While A to Z Dental Studio doesn’t offer traditional braces at their office, they do provide follow-up retainers to help maintain your straight teeth after you’ve completed your Invisalign treatment.
